I have found out that if my children "want" certain items, that they really
don't need, (movies, toys, etc.) then I simply "split" the cost of the items
with them. They save up their weekly allowances and I match whatever they have
saved. (there is a limit) For instance, my daughter recently wanted a cd Walkman,
she saved up $15.00 and I matched it. Therefore, she takes better care of the item
and learns about money, saving and spending.
